Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does psychotherapy cost?

$80 or $140 or $160 for a 55 minute counselling session.  This cost of therapy varies based on which member of our clinical team you decide to work with.

I can’t afford psychotherapy. Do you offer a reduced fee/sliding scale?

Unfortunately, Men Therapy Toronto does not offer reduced fees or a sliding scale.

Are the psychotherapy services covered by my insurance?

Clients may be covered by their extended insurance for psychotherapy only if their insurance plan covers treatment by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or a Registered Social Worker (RSW). Every extended insurance plan is different so clients must inquire with their insurance provider directly to learn whether they are covered.

I have insurance. Do you bill the insurance company directly?

No.  Men Therapy Toronto does not bill insurance companies directly. You will receive a receipt after each session which you would need to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Do you provide receipts?

Yes, you will receive a PDF copy of your receipt by email after each session.

What payment methods do you accept?

Men Therapy Toronto only accepts debit card or credit card payments.  We do not accept cash payments.  Payments are processed at the start of sessions directly with your psychotherapist.

What is your cancellation policy?

Scheduled appointments cancelled less than 24hrs before the start time of the appointment are charged full session fee.  There is no cost for any appointments cancelled/rescheduled greater than 24hrs before the scheduled start time.

How long does a psychotherapy appointment/session last?

Each appointment is 55 minutes in length.

Do I need to bring anything to the first appointment & what can I expect?

No.  There isn’t anything you need to bring.  During your first session you will begin with your psychotherapist going over a brief informed consent form which outlines the limits of confidentiality.  After that you will have a chance to share with your psychotherapist the reason for your visit.  Your psychotherapist will ask questions to help clearly understand your specific concern and discuss a potential treatment approach.

Can I bring a support person (i.e. spouse, family member, friend, etc.)?

Yes, you are welcome to bring a support person.  Men Therapy Toronto does not offer couples of marriage counselling so the support person will be there simply as a supportive resource for you.

How many sessions will I need to feel better?

It depends.  Some individuals start to feel better quickly as a result of simply talking open and honestly about their concerns for the first time.  However, deeper level change does take time.  The longer you have been struggling with your concern the more therapy sessions you will most likely need.  On average many clients do show progress after 8 – 10 sessions.

Can I book an appointment for a spouse, family member, friend, etc.?

No (insert big NO here). The individual coming in for psychotherapy is the only individual who can book the appointment.

What hours can I come in for an appointment for psychotherapy?

Once matched with a psychotherapist you will have access to their online calendar via our online client portal.  Each therapist sets their weekly availibilty however on average you can expect weekday and evening hours availibe for a session.
