Barriers to Intimacy are what keep men disconnected from themselves and others. All men develop barriers to intimacy which actually become an invitation towards greater intimacy if dealt with. A barrier to intimacy creates pain as men want to feel more connection and not less. For the healthy masculine intimacy is no longer feared but rather invited.
Intimacy involves being clearer about who one is as an individual and as a man and about sharing that freedom with others. The healthy masculine no longer feels a need to hide behind different veils in an effort to protect himself. He is comfortable with his strengths and aware of the areas that are weaknesses for him. He knows himself with a much greater depth. Moving through the various barriers and knowing oneself much more deeply translates into others being able to get closer to the man. This is the new intimacy that the healthy masculine will have created. He will have transformed himself into an individual that is more open and loving and the positive consequence will be greater intimacy with himself and others.
